The Convergent procedure is a minimally invasive approach to treat Atrial Fibrillation. A hybrid technique combining endovascular catheter ablation inside the heart with surgical ablation on the outside of the heart without the need for an open-heart surgery.

Atrial Fibrillation or A-Fib is the most common cardiac arrhythmia or irregular heartbeat in the United States affecting millions and can lead to heart failure or stroke if left untreated. Medication or electrical cardioversion is used to convert the heart rhythm into its’ normal sinus rhythm. Unfortunately, the disorder can persist with these methods alone. Once a person experiences A-Fib their heart will often resort back to that rhythm. Catheter ablation is the next option which ablates the electrical pathway that is responsible for A-fib. The Convergent procedure combines this approach with surgical ablation to increase success rates of regaining regular sinus rhythm.
